Family Therapy

The commitment and involvement of our clients’ families are one of the greatest predictors of client success. At The FSL, we offer individualized and group-based family support to all our families who need guidance and skill-building in order to best support their young adult’s treatment journey.

Family Therapy Highlights

Flexible Therapy For All Families

We offer one-to-one sessions that accommodate all family schedules. Sessions can be regular (weekly or monthly) or scheduled on an ‘as-needed’ basis, depending on the family and client’s needs. Generally, our family therapy does focus on the interactions and relations between the entire family unit, however, we also work individually with parents to develop specialized parenting and communication skills that will benefit their young adult where they are today.

Parent Coaching

Upon admission, every client is assigned a licensed clinical therapist as their Parent Coach. This individual serves as a liaison between the client’s clinical team and the family and helps parents learn valuable parenting skills that are clinically tailored to their young adult child’s unique needs and circumstances.

FSL families have the ability to craft a schedule that works for them, with weekly scheduled phone calls, Zoom calls, or in-person meetings depending on availability and preference. We also offer ongoing communication with parents between sessions. By providing reliable clinical coaching to parents we can ensure every client is consistently supported between the family and clinical care team during treatment.

Multi-Family Group Therapy

At The FSL we offer several weekly multi-family groups for clients, their parents and siblings. Multi-family groups are tailored to explore family relationships through psycho-education, processing and/or experiential methods. Group therapy provides our clients and their family members a safe, supported space to connect with others going through similar challenges, and an intimate opportunity for skill-building alongside fellow young adults and their families. Additionally, parents have the choice to join a weekly parent-only group to share and process their feelings and experiences with the support and guidance of a clinician. Community is a core pillar of care at The FSL, and we believe that parents as well as clients can learn and heal better, together.

The Parent Collective

Our biweekly psycho-educational support group for parents and guardians is supported by two licensed clinicians. Each session focuses on one aspect of the treatment journey (for example, parenting through a crisis, supporting money management, navigating holiday stress) and involves an introductory psycho-educational presentation followed by group questions and sharing. Attendees are encouraged to share their own experience and connect with fellow parents often navigating similar challenges and questions. FSL Parents are given access to an exclusive library of presentation resources to continue their education and skill-building.

Out-Of-State Family Support

For our out-of-state families, we host quarterly family days that allow for more targeted face-to-face support that addresses patterns of behavior and areas of opportunity to strengthen and develop the family unit.

How Can Family Therapy Be Helpful For A Young Adult In Treatment?

We believe that healthy engagement and family support during this transitional time enriches and strengthens our clients’ journeys. A central focus in family therapy is helping families communicate and interact with effective and healthy boundaries. Over time they can learn how to better relate to one another, support one another and hold one another accountable. Overall, sessions can promote healthier dialogue between parents and their child.

We have a unique approach to care with integrated treatment methods and supports.
